Week 2 - Day 7 - A for Air, B for Bottle, C for Chair, D for Drink
We usually begin the session with a Prayer seeking the Almighty's blessing to keep the kids' parents safe in their workplace. They maintain a one-minute silent prayer.
Then we switched over to physical exercise to remove lazy bones: they jump, flail their arms, half-bend, full bend, and touch toes.
Once they settle down on the floor, they sing without no prompt, "Early In the Morning" rhyme in unison. They explain the meaning in Hindi when asked. They repeat this thrice. Glad they got it quick.
Prompted to sing the Mungphali song, they hesitate and look for the opening line. I provide and they sing. I have to prompt every line. I make them sing a couple of times till they feel confident to sing without any promptings.
Then they do the ABCD song.
Today, we begin to explore more words in each alphabet. A for Apple. A for Air. Since they are already familiar with "Air" as part of the five elements, they are able to relate without any difficulty. B for Ball. How about a Bottle? I show them the bottle I carry with water daily. I show them the bottle and ask them what is it? They always say "Water". Not inside. What contains water? Bottle, they say. Since it is a construction site and tiling work is underway, several casings or boxes lying around. I picked one and ask them: They have no clue. Box I told them. C for Cat.
What you do when I throw a "Ball"? "Catch", they should. So, C for Catch.
Where does a teacher sit in the class? Bench? No. Kursi, they shout.
What is the english word for Kursi? I tell them: Chair C for Chair.
Do you have a chair at home? Yes, says one. Where? Not here. Back home, dada, dadi sit no it. Good hyperlinks.
D for Dog, they say always. I open the bottle, begin to drink water.
What am I doing?
Pani peera rahi ho.
What do you say for peene kaa?
They don't know. I say, "Drink". D for Drink.
Now I get into sentence making.
I drink water.
Know Banana? B for Banana also.
They nod.
I eat Banana.
You can't drink bananas. You eat bananas but drink water.
You eat roti. You eat chawal. You eat sabzi.
You drink water. you drink milk. You drink tea.
I want to explain the concepts of solid, liquid, and vapor. But I don't know the equivalent Hindi word.
Will do it soon.
Finally, they get into laughter therapy. They love it.
Before I say goodbye for the day, they drink the ice water from my bottle daily.
